The Employees

Haunting and captivating.

It is odd how writing can evoke creepy and unsettling feelings. Especially, when the style of the writing is constrained to witness accounts seen through the eyes of a bureaucracy. Ravn manages to do so in this case and it is very much worth reading.

The struggle of realization and self-actualization is similar to that of Hellstrom's Hive and Klara and the Sun, but it is much less dehumanizing and not at all Kafkaesque. If anything, it is celebration of humanity even in the inhuman, more in the line of Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
