The Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx

Geoff Keighley, The Final Hours of Half-Life: Alyx - A Decade Inside Valve Software.

Incredibly interesting! It is a rather unique behind-the-scenes look at Valve and of the last decade of silence from Valve’s side. At times I could have wished for it be slightly more in-depth, but I guess that is a matter of focusing on the story Geoff Keighley wanted to tell. Someday, it would be nice with a detailed and critical portrait of Valve and their work.

A big downside is that the media/format is a bit strange. I really like what they did, but I think they could have gone further. At the moment, it was still just text + media and not text and media, where the two supported each other better. It is a minor complaint, but given the limitations of accessing this book (buying on Steam, only on PC and Mac), I found it a bit unnecessary.

But that is a minor complaint and the content, as it was, was excellent and gave good glimpses of both Valve’s overall working process and the challenges of bringing Half-Life: Alyx to market.
