The Stranger
Albert Camus, The Stranger (fr. L'étranger) (da. Den fremmede). 978-87-02-01076-3
In our society any man who does not weep at his mother's funeral runs the risk of being sentenced to death.
That is how Camus himself summarized The stranger and with that in mind, I found it to be an excellent book.
Carefully constructed and everything is seen from the main character’s, Meursault’s, point-of-view. This is necessary, as the above thesis can only really be understood in full by seeing it from Meursault’s perspective. There is always a game to be played and other people set the rules. Meursault doesn’t play by the rules in any way and is only faintly aware that there is a game.
In this sense, he calls the bluff on the whole of society.
