How to Take Smart Notes
Sönke Ahrens, How to Take Smart Notes: one simple technique to boost writing, learning and thinking: for students, academics and nonfiction book writers. 978-1-5428-6650-7
For a how to
book it is lacking in the how department. This book seems to be well researched and it definitely has something to say, but, is it the right thing to say? It felt like the majority of this book was spend on presenting the evidence for why the Zettelkasten method is an excellent strategy for note taking for knowledge workers (and especially academics and others who write a lot.) But I’ve already bought the book, I don’t need more convincing.
I had hoped that I could lend this book to colleagues and friends, but I just don’t think it has a practical enough approach to be worth it. As someone who is already using a Zettelkasten it does bring a lot of interesting perspective on the method.
There is room in the this world for a practical book on how to start and work with a Zettelkasten. But this book unfortunately isn’t it.
